All of our classes are designed with beginners in mind, while still offering depth and challenge for more experienced artists. We believe everyone can learn to draw and paint with the right guidance and encouragement.
We regularly offer one-day workshops in oil painting and classes for drawing in pastel or charcoal for those who are looking to dip their toe in and explore new materials without a long-term commitment. Alongside these, our longer classes for painting and drawing allow you to build skills, confidence, and understanding over time, always with supportive, individual guidance
We specialise in classes for painting in oils and classes for drawing using soft pastels, charcoal, pencil, and ink. Our core programme is made up of longer 5–6 week courses, which normally run on Tuesday mornings and allow students to build skills gradually and with confidence.
Alongside our taught courses, we run untutored life drawing sessions, usually held on the first Friday evening of every month from 6:30–8:30pm. These sessions offer a relaxed, focused environment to draw from the figure, and we also occasionally run themed life drawing evenings as additional events.
We regularly offer one-day workshops and weekend workshops for those looking to explore a specific medium or subject in more depth, or for anyone wanting a shorter commitment while still receiving structured guidance
This depends on the specific drawing class you’re attending. We usually provide some core materials for the session (for example, soft pastels for pastel-based classes), so you’ll be able to take part even if you don’t have everything yourself. However, we do encourage students to bring their own drawing materials if they have them, as this allows you to work with familiar tools and experiment more freely.
We normally provide a certain amount of paper for the class, but you’re very welcome to bring your own paper too, especially if you’d like to try different surfaces, sizes, or colours. Bringing your own materials can help you get the most out of the session and continue exploring ideas beyond the class
For painting classes, we always have a selection of brushes and palette knives available to use during the session. That said, we encourage students to bring their own brushes if they have favourites they enjoy working with, as this helps you feel more comfortable and confident while painting.
Depending on the course, we’ll let you know in advance which painting surfaces to bring (such as canvases or boards) and what will be provided. We normally provide the paint for the class, so you can focus on learning and experimenting without needing to invest in lots of materials straight away.
