Come and explore the vibrant, colourful and wonderfully buttery medium of oil pastels.

This one-day workshop will focus on drawing the figure in colour, working from a range of draped and semi-draped poses. We’ll use photographs and/or a live model as reference, giving you the opportunity to explore the figure while concentrating on colour, shape and expressive mark-making.

We’ll look at working on coloured grounds and explore how the colour of the paper can become part of the drawing. Throughout the day we’ll build colour through layering, blending and mark-making, using oil pastels to create form, light and shadow.

The day will include demonstrations and guided exercises, with plenty of time to develop your own work and experiment with the medium.

Whether you are new to oil pastels or have used them before, this is a chance to spend a day really getting to know this wonderfully rich and immediate medium and to build colour into your drawing from the very beginning.

Suitable for: Beginners and those with some previous drawing or oil pastel experience
