Spend the day painting a still life directly from life, using a carefully arranged selection of objects as your subject.

We’ll look at how to start a painting, establish the main shapes and proportions, and gradually build up colour, light, shade and form. Along the way, we’ll explore colour mixing, brushwork, edges and the small details that help bring a painting to life.

There will be demonstrations throughout the day, with plenty of time for you to work on your own painting and receive individual guidance.

The workshop is designed to be accessible to beginners with some basic knowledge of oil painting, while also providing plenty for those who have a little more experience. The emphasis will be on observing, experimenting and gaining confidence in painting what is actually in front of you.
